Can the goverment help replace stolen items after a robbery or mugging?
I had 2 friends robbed 2 months ago by a few kids with knives. they got quite a bit of stuff stolen (northface jackets, wallets, cell phones, ipods, and cash). After i heard that they were okay they were able to get reimberssed for their stolen items ( or atleast $$ to pay for new things.)
I was recently mugged for my cell phone wallet and jacket along with 3 of my friends. the muggers were 3 young men that were all wielding hand guns. after the incident i called the police and filed a report and was told that similiar events have been hapening in my neighborhood/city lately.
Is it true that the goverment or some greater force is able to compensate me for my stolen goods and or payments for them if i am able to present detailts about what was taken and what i will not be able to afford to replace??

No. The insurance company can reimburse you for the items that were covered under the policy.
The government does not pay for things that are taken in a crime. The police can return the items if they are found, but that is the extent of their help.
Your friends may have had a generous donation from some kind person(s) who heard their story.

Best compact personal protection hand gun?
What would be the best small handgun for personal protection that can be carried in the back pocket that weigh about 1 pound?
Size of a wallet.
Would like to have a laser with it that will come on automatically once the finger is placed into the trigger.

i would say check a SigP232 (.380 semi-auto)....i personally carry a Glock 27 (.40 SW)....also look into Khar 9mm or .380 ...these guns will cost more than some of the Kel-tec or taurus...type manuf. but these are guns other Police Officers use for thier off-duty/ backup weapons...
these weapons cost anywhere from $450-$700
