    British England
    British England
How would the British have cut New England off from the rest of the colonies as the proposed to do in 1777?

We were already independent so didn't we have control over that land?
And also why were we still fighting with the British after declaring our Independence?

I believe that was during the second phase of the War for Independence. The british devised a plan to divide the states in two. William Howe moved his army from New York City up the Hudson to Albany. A second British force led by John Burgoyne came up from Canada to meet Howe. It was a strategy designed to trap the American army between the two movements. Instead though, Howe abandoned his own plan and decided to attack Philadelphia. This left Burgoyne on his own. Burgoyne continued in his efforts to gain control and managed to seize Fort Ticonderoga. However, on August 16, he withdrew to Saratoga and was surrounded by Gate's army. He and his 5000 men surrendered to the Americans on October 17, 1777. The British lost due to their own mistakes. First, Howe's sudden decision to abort his own plan. Second, because Howe allowed the Americans to retreat and regroup for a whole winter. Some say that Howe secretly sympathized with the American cause and it may be why he wanted to lose the war.

I take it that it was a battle for more than just the land. We wanted complete independence from the british. To form our own government, laws, religion, etc. Not to live under the kings rule.

Do people living in England call themselves British or English?

    Just wondering.

Cause usually in america we call England people British, but just want to know what you guys call yourselves.

Both, but don't forget that Great Britain is made up of three countries...England, Wales, and Scotland so the people from all those countries are British, not just the English. Most people from the individual countries would class themselves as English, Welsh or Scottish before calling themselves British...

The province of Northern Ireland is not classed as part of Great Britain but it is part of the United Kingdom...
