Is my friend going to go to jail over this?
My friends girlfriend was working as a receptionist for a guy who owns his own business. She wrote out a check for $50 to her boyfriend and signed her boss' name on it. And he, like an idiot, cashed it at the bank. They got caught and returned the money to the man. She's fired and her boss doesn't want to press charges. But, his wife does. And to top it off, their son is a cop. My friend is supposed to go to the precinct today. What do you think will happen? Fraud + larceny?
But I'd also like to point out the fact that once my wallet was stolen and a woman used my debit card and signed my name for hundreds of dollars and the DA called me and told me they plead it down and she got community service.

Why do people ask about whether they'll have to do jail time - the real question is whether they committed a crime. (Not me, I;m a good guy - I just made a mistake, I'm an idiot.)
Your friends committed a crime and they will likely be charged. Whether they will go to jail is a different story. Probably get a chance to plead guilty to attempted Petty Larceny (at worst) or even more likely will get an ACD (see CPL 170.55 - adjournment in contemplation of dismissal.) with the case dismissed if the two of them are out of trouble for 6 months. However, they will be arrested and processed.
"boss doesn't want to press charges"
Hey, I've got bad news for your friends - that terminology about "pressing charges" or "dropping charges", it's meaningless. Civilians don't press or drop charges. They may decide against cooperating in a way that dooms a case, but they have no overt power to dismiss a criminal case.

which should and could have been a felony (see PL 165.45 - criminal possession of stolen prop. 4th deg.) Interesting to know what the woman actually pleaded to. In plea bargaining, everything is pleaded down - that's the point of bargaining.

Does anyone know in OREGON the # to call to report a stolen Kicker Check?
My son's wallet was stolen w/the kicker in it. Since it was n "after hours" - I can't find a number on the State Website and hoped to get it reported immediately without having to wait for "business hours".
