Simple Checkbook
Excel question?
I have to make a simple function for Excel. I have 2 rows that have to be added to make a third row. I'm supposed to use it as if it a checkbook. All my credit is in E4-E12 and my debit is F4-F12. I'm wanting column G to be the balance.
What is the correct way of making this work out?
When I paste =E4-F4 into G5-G12 it doesn't auto change, it all stays as =E4-F4 which makes it the same number all the way down. Is there a way to get E-F = G and then the 2nd row be E2 - F2 +G = G2? and so on and so forth
Let's assume it's G4 and the previous balance is in G3
=G3 + E4 - F12
copy G4 and paste it into G5-G12
Gives you the running count...
In G4 type "=" up + left left - left "enter"

Does anyone know the formula for a checkbook register in excel? a running balence?
I know it seems pretty simple but I can't figure it out. I am using two columns one for payment and the second for deposit and obvioulsy a third for the balence. I can't seem to figure out how to get it to balence when one column is added and the other is subtracted, sometimes there is only one number to be added or subtracted because they are not on the same line, just like a checkbook. I tried the formula they suggest on the microsoft excel tutorial website but it doesn't work because it's not set up like an actual check book. Please help, I know it's fairly siple but I just can't figure it out.
column B= Deposits- written as positive numbers
column C= Withdrawals- written as positive numbers
column D = your running balance
use this formula
=+D2+B3-C3
copy and paste down
d2= your previous ending balance (the 1st line (d2) woiuld have your manually entered starting balance(even if its zero)). after that it will have a running balance in the d column and you dont have to enter anything into D.
b3 is your 1st deposit...even if its blank or zero being added
c2 is your 1st withdrawal even if its blank or zero being subtracted
if you write your withdrawals with a negative sign, then use this formula:
=+D2+B3+C3
basically you are still subtracting your withdrawls since you manually type in the negative sign.
you might want to go back to Microsoft and download this (see source) template that someone else has already created.
