alright first of all, i dont need u smart asses and goodie goodies in here.
Lets just say a slim came across a wallet with a visa credit card. Now im underaged and i dont want to buy stuff in a store and get cought. but i thought of paying my WoW subscription online. Do you think they can track my ass down or something?

i know they can track everything down. but when i registered for an account i used all fake info. and if i subscribe i dont have to put in my realadress and stuff. CAN THEY TRACK ME DOWN JUST BECAUSE IM ON WoW??
All they have to do is track down the subscription that was paid for and you are toast.

How do I prevent having my identity stolen?
Okay, dummy me left my wallet with my State Id AND my Social Security card in it. There were also thrity dollars, but I could care less about that. I just want the wallet and everything else back. (Slim chance I know) Anyway, how do I know if someone is using my information to get credit cards? I am only 18 and have virtually no credit, so would they be able to anyway?
I'm just freaking out here!
Hypothetical: If you founf a decent wallet with 30 dollars in it and some one's personal information, would you take the money and try to return the wallet?
First thing to do if you haven't yet is to report the loss. The state id that needs to be replaced may require a report to waive the fee. You will also need to replace your social security card which you can get info on from ssa.gov. There should be a form you can print out and file.
As for your credit rating... you are entitled to a free credit report from all three agencies once per year. At ftc.gov you can find the link to the free credit reports. You can put a hold on your credit cards by submitting the request in writing which will prevent someone from getting credit in your name without your written authorization. This is an extreme method of protecting your credit since when you want to sign up for a credit card, you will have to notify in writing that you are applying for credit which will take some more time.
I suggest that you notify the credit reporting agencies and the ssa (social security administration) to indicate on your credit report and your ssa account that your social security card was stolen. Someone can still use your SS# to gain employment but it will still show up on your earnings record and/or show up with the IRS..
Yearly you should check all or at least one of your credit reports. Chances are that your information was thrown away and won't be used (hopefully). If your address was in your wallet, I suggest you take steps to insure that your home is secure. This is not to scare you but it's a fact of life. The chances of it happening in a case like this are minimal.
Report the loss
Check credit reports - you can put a 100 word statement on each report to advise creditors that your info was stolen.
Put hold on credit reports (optional)
Contact SSA, get replacement, ask how to protect yourself from fraudulent activity.

p.s. I would return the entire wallet by mail if there was an address or find you by phone number if it was listed. I've returned 4 wallets in my lifetime and I've lost one of my own which was found and returned. Check the local police department in the area where it was lost; someone may have turned it in.
