Young Colt

How do you train a young colt for biting?
Whats your Technic?
not to bite
most things you say will make a colt head shy any other things
When your colt bites you or tries to bite you, you should act like you are going to kill him for 3 seconds. Just 3 seconds and then go back to what you were doing before he tried to bite you. This shows him that things are fine as long as he doesn't bite. I do this with all of my horses and it works after a few times. I have reformed some bad biters. What I mean by trying to kill him is that you act aggressive. Throw your arms up look mean and roar at him. he will get the message. Remember to go back to a calm non-aggressive posture after you do this. This will not make him afraid of you if you do it this way. He will learn that biting is off limits and you are fine with him as long as he doesn't bite.

| | The Colt - $5.99 The made-for-cable The Colt takes place in Virginia in the fourth year of the Civil War. The mare owned by young Jim Rabb (Ryan Merriman) of the First Michigan Cavalry gives birth to a colt, which battle-weary Sgt. Longacre (Steve Bacic) orders Jim to shoot so as not to slow down the other soldiers in the unit. Jim refuses to do so, risking severe disciplinary action. As it turns out, the Confederates strike before Longacre does, stealing both colt and mare. Again defying orders, Jim heads out alone to rescue his beloved horses, saving the life of a dying Rebel prisoner along the way. Ultimately, the colt proves to be an inspiration to Jim's comrades in arms, and is duly immortalized by another member of the First Michigan, army artist Covington (Darcy Belsher). An uplifting tale of unassailable innocence in the midst of America's bloodiest war, The Colt made its Hallmark channel debut on July 9, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi |

| | Gore Vidal's Lincoln/The Colt - $5.99 Includes:Gore Vidal's Lincoln (1988) The Colt (2005) Gore Vidal's Lincoln Originally telecast in two parts on March 27 and 28 of 1988, Lincoln was adapted from the bestselling "factual fiction" by Gore Vidal. Sam Waterston stars as Abraham Lincoln, with Mary Tyler Moore frighteningly convincing as the tragic Mary Todd Lincoln. Predictably, Part One of Lincoln deals with the inauguration, the outbreak of War, and the president's tiltings with his cabinet, while Part Two includes the Emancipation Proclamation, the appointment of General Grant (James Gammon), and the assassination. The throughline of the script is the deteriorating mental condition of Mary Lincoln, not to mention her injurious impulsiveness: at one point, Honest Abe must cover up the fact that Mary has stolen a copy of his inaugural speech and sold it. Evidently, the name of Gore Vidal was not considered enough of a drawing card by the NBC publicists, who insisted upon advertising Lincoln as the second coming of Gone With the Wind, adding the teaser tagline "The Untold Story." ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi The Colt The made-for-cable The Colt takes place in Virginia in the fourth year of the Civil War. | | Colt The $4.1 Rated: NRSynopsis: It's 1864, and the First Michigan Cavalry is stranded in a Virginia forest, choking with smoldering fires and smoke and chilled by the distant cries of falling men. Among those stranded in this hell: the weary Sergeant Longacre (Steve Bacic, Out of Order); Covington (Darcy Belsher, Legalise), an illustrator enlisted to capture the Civil War in unerring detail; and trooper Jim Rabb (Ryan Merriman, Taken), who counts his brother among the casualties, yet still rides his beloved mare Jen with a true soldier's indomitable will to survive. Then one morning Jim discovers that Jen has given birth and by her side is a newborn colt, shaking and afraid, born to chaos, and clinging to his mother for life. Longacre orders Jim to shoot the foal, lest it prove a hindrance, but Jim—seeing the colt as a consolation and a reminder of the beauty of life—refuses. |

Lounging the Young Colt
Young horses... how do you you tell how tall they will get? and can you tell their hoof size?
Im buying a colt under the age of 2 for barrel racing. I know alot about horses, but i want to make sure i do everything right with him. So any info on young colts will help. and i forget the way to tell how tall a young horse will get but i really need to know. and is there a way to tell how big there hooves will get when theyre young??
as a rule of thumb by age 1-2 a horse has all the leg length they will ever have (they are born with 2/3) and most horses are as deep from wither to elbow as they are long from elbow to ground. so to estimate height measure the horses leg from ground to elbow and double it. then convert back into hands ex. 28 inches elbow to ground doubled is 56 inches. 56 inches is 14 hands. as for hooves they really dont get much bigger past about 16-18months so what you see is most likey what your going to get hoof wise. you need to look at the porportion more than actual size. if the colt looks like he has small feet, he will have small feet as an adult. if he feet look appropriate for his size now they should be correct size as an adult. again with horses they dont like to follow the book on just about eveything so these are only educated guesses.
