Horse Question, How Much weight is safe for my colt?
I bought a year old paint colt that was born in august 2005, It was broken to ride western, trail and to jump (I do not plan on jumping him)
I had my livestock vet out to check him out and make sure he is sound however I dont want to hurt him as he is 14.2 hands tall and according to my weight tape he is approximately 750 pounds. Does anyone know a website or have a table so that I can be certian as to not overload my colt by having him ridden. The Vet said that he is a bit young for the training to stick if he is not worked with on a regular basis. I am about 6ft and 230 lbs and kinda green when it comes to horses.
The books I have don't seem to give me the answers I am loking for.
Im sorry after looking through the question I stated that it was a year old. He is 2 going on 3 years old.
An 05 model as the auctioneer would say
Young animals, included horses and humans for that matter have growth plates on the ends of many of their bones that slowly harden as they age. Horses growth plates in their legs are usually closing at age 2, but that can vary greatly by the individual horse and especially by breed. The growth plates in the spine take a little longer.
You are a good sized, sturdy man it sounds like, and this horse might not be big enough for you to ride for long periods of time, even when he's fully grown. For a rider 6' or over, I try to use a horse a minimum of 15hh. But again, it depends on this horses stockiness. I'm 5'5" and slim, and feel to big on my 2 year old paint that's 14hh.
What your vet said about the training 'sticking' at this age is baloney. Horses actually learn many things better when they are younger. In general, it is much harder to start an older horse than a 2 or 3 year old. Yes, he does need to be worked with regularly at this stage of training, but so would any green horse.
The old rule is that your weight, plus the weight of the saddle and any other equipment on the horse should not exceed 30% of his body weight. There are other opinions of course, but this seems to be the most common.

| | The Colt - $5.99 The made-for-cable The Colt takes place in Virginia in the fourth year of the Civil War. The mare owned by young Jim Rabb (Ryan Merriman) of the First Michigan Cavalry gives birth to a colt, which battle-weary Sgt. Longacre (Steve Bacic) orders Jim to shoot so as not to slow down the other soldiers in the unit. Jim refuses to do so, risking severe disciplinary action. As it turns out, the Confederates strike before Longacre does, stealing both colt and mare. Again defying orders, Jim heads out alone to rescue his beloved horses, saving the life of a dying Rebel prisoner along the way. Ultimately, the colt proves to be an inspiration to Jim's comrades in arms, and is duly immortalized by another member of the First Michigan, army artist Covington (Darcy Belsher). An uplifting tale of unassailable innocence in the midst of America's bloodiest war, The Colt made its Hallmark channel debut on July 9, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi |

| | Gore Vidal's Lincoln/The Colt - $5.99 Includes:Gore Vidal's Lincoln (1988) The Colt (2005) Gore Vidal's Lincoln Originally telecast in two parts on March 27 and 28 of 1988, Lincoln was adapted from the bestselling "factual fiction" by Gore Vidal. Sam Waterston stars as Abraham Lincoln, with Mary Tyler Moore frighteningly convincing as the tragic Mary Todd Lincoln. Predictably, Part One of Lincoln deals with the inauguration, the outbreak of War, and the president's tiltings with his cabinet, while Part Two includes the Emancipation Proclamation, the appointment of General Grant (James Gammon), and the assassination. The throughline of the script is the deteriorating mental condition of Mary Lincoln, not to mention her injurious impulsiveness: at one point, Honest Abe must cover up the fact that Mary has stolen a copy of his inaugural speech and sold it. Evidently, the name of Gore Vidal was not considered enough of a drawing card by the NBC publicists, who insisted upon advertising Lincoln as the second coming of Gone With the Wind, adding the teaser tagline "The Untold Story." ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi The Colt The made-for-cable The Colt takes place in Virginia in the fourth year of the Civil War. | | Colt The $4.1 Rated: NRSynopsis: It's 1864, and the First Michigan Cavalry is stranded in a Virginia forest, choking with smoldering fires and smoke and chilled by the distant cries of falling men. Among those stranded in this hell: the weary Sergeant Longacre (Steve Bacic, Out of Order); Covington (Darcy Belsher, Legalise), an illustrator enlisted to capture the Civil War in unerring detail; and trooper Jim Rabb (Ryan Merriman, Taken), who counts his brother among the casualties, yet still rides his beloved mare Jen with a true soldier's indomitable will to survive. Then one morning Jim discovers that Jen has given birth and by her side is a newborn colt, shaking and afraid, born to chaos, and clinging to his mother for life. Longacre orders Jim to shoot the foal, lest it prove a hindrance, but Jim—seeing the colt as a consolation and a reminder of the beauty of life—refuses. |

EXCITING YOUNG COLT AT STUD: For Sale in Wexford
What are the chances of the Texans getting Colt McCoy next season?
They skipped the Houston sensation Vince Young, will Colt be passed on too. Or who else will take em'?
Yeah I'm asking it already, as a should be Texans fan, it's all I have left.
Maybe I should have asked about Blount laying that guy out.
you are asking this already?
The Texans dont need a QB. They need some help on D or another WR and they will be a good team
