Bubbles in beer - is it true lager is carbonated after brewing?
I've just read (in a book...offline) that lager is carbonated after brewing (i.e. the bubbles are added after brewing) AND that the bubbles in bitters/ales are naturally occurring as part of the brewing process.
is this true?
Hmmmm, where to start.
Lager is served using carbonation at point of sale, from pressurised kegs, so yes it is carbonated after brewing, but not before going into the barrel.
Cask Conditioned beers are completely different, in that they contain live yeast, so produce a natural carbonation when served.
This is why a Real Ale can be served "on gravity", which means that it is served direct from the barrel with no gas pressure, but keg beers would be completely flat if this were tried.

Is it true that beer can be used as effective snail bait?
How would I set the bait trap up? Should the beer be placed in a bowl in the veg garden?
Yep, it's true, I've used it myself. Plant some ordinary plastic cups in the garden, so that the rim of the cup is barely seen above ground. Fill each cup halfways with beer - I don't know why, but snails are drawn to it, fall into the cups and drown.
