Dresser Valet

Is it better to tip a hair dresser by cash or by card?
Another debate with a friend.
So I've heard rumors about tipping with card that's pooled, that it's taxed, that it's split between people, they have to wait until their paycheck to see it.
The arguement is- if it's better to tip with cash or by card. But I've always seen hairdressers like a bellhop at the hotel or valet parking. I've never tipped a bellhop on my hotel bill. What do you think?
The trend near me has been for the shops to not accept credit card tips, so I tip cash. Just a few years ago, most places allowed you to tip with your cc. Not sure what has driven this change
But, I'm sure the hair dresser would prefer cash. Even though it is illegal, im sure many people in this business underestimate their tips for tax purposes.

Why is a tip still expected by a professional hair stylist when they're getting 50%+ of the total bill?
Your hair stylist does not get minimum wage or less - like the wait staff, bartender, car valet. Most hair dresser gets 50% or more of what YOU just spent in the salon + bonuses,.And if you bought some products (they insist you need, like shampoo etc, ) they get even more. Ladies, honestly, that $200+ bill you just plunked down for your cut & color, while your stylist attended 2 clients as your color came up, just made $300+ for their pocket. Why are we tipping them? If they are a professional they should not be tipped. You don't tip your doctor, your tax guy, or your mechanic - why should we tip the professional hair dresser? I am not taking about the discount hair salon chains with the low cost cuts - I am talking about the salon who wants you to have "an experience" because of all their "ambiance". I say it is time to stop this tip & hope you 'll "experience" the ambiance of a bit more cash to tip the person at minimum wage - they need it, not your professional stylist.
I think this depends on the salon. I personally have NEVER spent $200 on a cut and color. I have spent about $100 before. I also have the owner be my stylist and I never feel the need to tip them because they make 100% profit on me. It is not bad ettiquette to not tip the owner of a salon. Just remember that you get what you pay for and if you feel your $200 cut and color is too much money, then you should go somewhere else. I would not pay that kind of money for my hair, but I have found several great hairdressers who know how to use a pair of scissors! Ambience is worth nothing if you are aren't impressed with the end result.
