How can you make a fake chainsaw for a halloween costume?
I am making a halloween costume based on the character Ash from the Evil Dead Trilogy (hail to the Bruce, baby!). I have the leather belt straps, shirt, pants, severed hand, metal clamp, lots of fake blood and grey hair spray. However, I am having trouble finding a fake chainsaw that isn't cheesy looking and not flat. I had an idea for the saw part, using cardboard and metallic paint as well as a cork screw handle for activator. Does anyone have any suggestions for the body of the chainsaw? Thanks in advance.
Well, I don't know about the body, but you could always use a real chainsaw with the blade taken off. I don't know if you could replace the blade with your cardboard idea, but I know people get really freaked out when they see someone carrying a real chainsaw. If you're not going trick-or-treating, you can turn it on and really scare people!

What are those heavy chunks of metal encased in plastic that are clamped onto some USB cords?
I took one apart, thinking they might be magnets, but they're not.
They are ferrite inductor cores in the shape of a toroid, which I believe is the most efficient shape for an inductor or transformer core.
The cable running through the core essentially becomes an inductor. Any common-mode voltage spike will be attenuated by the inductive effect. For example, voltages induced in a ground loop when lightning strikes nearby. (The ground loop acts as a loop antenna and an RF voltage is induced by reception of the electromagnetic wave sent out by the strike.) Without the toroid, data errors will occur in the USB signal.

We used those 3M Command hooks to hang up our Christmas stockings! We hung the stockings on the glass doors of our entertainment center. I also use them to hang lights outside for our trick-or-treaters at Halloween. I have my fly-swatter hanging on a 3M hook in a closet. I also used them to hang up a US flag at a Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet. To hang the flag, I used 3 hooks along with 3 small metal clamps, the kind you use to clamp large piles of paper together. After attaching the clamp to the flag, I removed one of the handles from the clamp and used the other clamp handle to hook onto the hooks. I also have a little inspirational plaque hanging behind my computer on my desk, that I used a 3M hook for. The only thing I would do to improve these hooks would be to have the adhesive tab be clear instead of white.
