Oil Cloth Pocket
Should I oil my pocket knives to prevent rust if they are display pieces only?
The reason I ask is because I have a small knife collection, consisting of 440A, AUS-8, and VG-1 steels (most of my collection are knives from Cold Steel, S.O.G, CRKT, and some cheap stuff from China).
I keep them in a nice display case, and I clean them with a micro-fiber cloth to remove fingerprints, and anything else that gets onto the blades. However, I don't know if I need to oil my knives, I assume the only time I would need to oil a knife is if I used it regularly. But I thought I'd make sure, and I have read that a light coat of oil helps prevent rust, but I'd like to know if I need to oil my knives or not. Ten points to whoever answers my question thoroughly, and explains why I should or shouldn't oil my display knives. Thanks!
Hey...:) Smart question... Even in a display case you should keep them at least lightly oiled. I have a rather large collection myself, some swords are even sheathed, I would never think to leave them dry if I could avoid it. Myself blades, they range from cosplay to totally leathal. . Lots of martial arts and middle ages wickedry as well. If it has a real blade with a metal edge, YES, you should oil then at least every 6 monthes check on them. You may not need to re oil for a year or more, but certainly you would be dissapointed if you found any of them starting to rust, in any color. It also adds strength. The metals are made to hold an edge, and over time, even if just taken out to clean, can get small burrs on them. The larger blades can be a chore to smooth, and shouldnt even have to be done if you arent using them. The basic idea is to protecthe metals poreosity,give added density to the fine edges and provide protection from oxidation of any form. **ESPECIALLY** if you have high end ones. Only draw I can thin of is If you think the oil starts to harm the handles in any way, or the hilt, dont go up that far. As well You can tell if anyone has touched your blades, as there will be a finger trail/ prints/smears on your stuff!

Washing cloth diapers made easy
how do you get chap stick stains out of cloths?
I recently did a load of laundry & forgot to remove my chap stick from a pocket...during the drying cycle the chap stick mealted and I have oil stains on some of the garments...is there anything I can do to remove these marks or are they ruined?
1) Brush the excess stain off the surface of the fabric.
2) Rinse in cold water to dilute the stain.
3) Using a PLASTIC bucket, create a soak solution by adding 1/2 use (approx. 25 mls) Tide® per gallon of cold water. Allow the garment to soak for up to 30 minutes, weighting the item with a WHITE towel to keep it totally submerged.
4) Wash in warm water with 1 use of Tide.
5) If stain remains, repeat steps before drying.
