One window, two blinds drawn against the day
One evening, two hours to lie & hide away
One bed, two bodies, beneath the satin sheets
One relay of strident & sinful meet and greets
Two wallets, both buried, reminders of their home
One message (“where’s dinner?”) left upon the phone
Three rings, four eyes, which now refuse to lock
One silence, like violence, a shared look to the clock
Five keys, she fumbles, feels inside her purse
Two lips, ten lines, the words she will rehearse
One tie, one shirt, she helps him button up
One skirt, two heels, he knows it’s not enough
Two cars, both leaving, both done their nine-to-fives
Two lovers, two liars, who segregate their lives
Two twenties, left sitting, the old maid’s weekly tip
One single living witness to their noncommittal strip
Though I can understand how I was never so moved...the sad disgust that's just washed over me...this was a vividly powerful write!
