Why are so many baby girl clothes either pink or purple?
My wife is having another baby and we went shopping for some baby clothes yesterday. It seems like the only thing they had was either in pink or purple. There was few yellows and hardly any greens. Blues and reds and oranges were no were to be found. Most every thing that was in blue, red, or orange had a reference to being a "Lil Slugger" or "prince" on it.
It's annoying, isn't it? Baby clothes have become so sex stereotyped that it's also next to impossible to find clothes for boys that don't have a sports theme. When my parents were babies, it was not at all unusual for parents to dress their boys in frilly gowns. In fact, I have a picture of my father wearing one.
I have two girls and people often mistook them for boys, no matter what they were wearing. Apparently, people think that babies that look small and delicate are girls, especially if they have curly hair while those that look large and sturdy are boys. Both of my girls were sturdy and had straight hair.
