What the meaning behind the Lady of Guadalupe with a skull for the face?
I have seen a few tattoos of the virgin mary and lady of guadalupe with skulls instead of their face. Some seem to be painted on their face like a Day of the Dead thing.
I know what the Day of the Dead skulls represent, I know what the Virgin Mary and Lady of Guadalupe represent.. but what does it symbolize when they are combined..
Is it sacrilegious or anti -religious.. or the opposite.. or it it just an artistic expression with no meaning??

"La Santa Muerte" is who youre talking about. It translates to "the death saint" and has nothing to do with drug wars. In some cultures death is an accepted way of life -and nothing to be scared of. Shes found in mexican/ south american religion, and is there to judge the dead before they pass to their final resting place. Basically the same as the christian angel Azriel.
