Red Line

What causes a red line to appear on scanned images?
Every time I scan negatives with my HP Scanjet 4890, I end up with a red line going down the length of one of the strips. Any ideas?
The line doesn't seem to appear when scanning things other than negatives.
It's possible that it has something to do with resizing the scan on your monitor. Look at the scanned image at 100% resize and see if it's still there.
If it is still there, try adjusting your scanning DPI and see if that doesn't get rid of it.
If it's still there, and if it's a vertical line (along the length of a page) then it is probably a bad scan element. In this case, it's probably only reading the red and not the blue and green at that one particular element. Best way to avoid it - don't scan along that line, or get a new scanner.
If it's a horizontal line (along the width of the page), then it is likely a problem with the scanner feed mechanism. Changing the DPI ought to show an improvement, but not necessarily.
I hope this helps.
Jim

Red Line Trailer
Does Floor Boarding my car and having the tach go to the red line cause any damage?
I typically drive my car very easy and slow... but I have been driving on the interstate lately in heavy traffic. Sometimes I floor the car when merging on and the the tachometer jumps to the red line. This car is an automatic. Will this cause any damage to the car? Thanks
Causes more wear and stress on the motor and othe rdrivetrain components.
Your better off still taking it easy. Screw others with merging on the interstate, that is why there is multiple lanes. You don't HAVE to be going the speedlimit when you hit the end of the on ramp. Besides, your using more fuel.
I never hit the end of the on ramp at full speed (unless on my bike). In my truck I'm rarely doing 50...
Take it easy on your car, it will last longer.
