Slim Small
My wife is 35 and has slim chances of being pregnant as she has small and poor eggs. Is this normal at 35?
IVF Specialist in India told my wife that the eggs my wife is carrying are too small. Hence she will require donar eggs to be pregnant. Therefore the chances are slim with my wife's own eggs. My wife still wants to give it a shot with her own eggs. Will her eggs improve in few months to come?
Yes. They can. Mine did. Before ANY decisions are made, get a 2nd opinion. Lots of specialist will suggest donor eggs before suggesting that their protocol didn't work. It is very likely that she just did not respond well to the protocol she was on. I have seen huge improvements in a woman's egg quality with a change in her protocol! For her eggs to be “small” it is also very likely that they were retrieved too early. Changing the protocol can make a world of difference!
After three failed IVF cycles, I did a lot of research and found a few things that are believed to help with egg quality. It takes an ovarian follicle about 90 days to fully develop. During that time the follicle quality (and ultimately egg quality) may be influenced. The best thing you can do is to prepare the body for three months before starting a cycle. That should include looking into dietary and lifestyle changes. Cut out the fast food, eat organic when possible, add lots of fruits and vegetables to your diet, drink lots of water, and limit caffeine and alcohol and, of course no smoking.
Acupuncture in conjunction with fertility treatments seems to be having a very positive impact. You may want to check it out. She can also do things to increase bloodflow in her reproductive organs like yoga and walking.
I highly recommend getting The Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis. I followed her advice a few months before my 4th IVF cycle by starting acupuncture, yoga, walking, taking wheatgrass, fish oil, and royal jelly. There was a tremendous improvement for me! My 3rd cycle, my eggs were hard and dark. Out of 15 retrieved only 4 fertilized. For cycle #4, 10 eggs were retrieved, 9 fertilized and by day 5 we still had 7 “Beautiful embryos” to choose from. It worked. We got a positive beta on the 13th and have our first ultrasound on the 25th. We are praying that this beanie hangs on.
