Puppy food intolerance?
My puppy came from the pound. They had him on 2 tblsp of wet food mixed with 1/2 cup pedigree puppy 3 times a day.
My vet said to cut out the wet, as it could cause excess weight gain.
my puppy's poo was never 'solid' and one day he just poo'd blood and mucus.
The vet checked him for worms/parvo/other stuff.
She gave him Hills prescription I/D, his poo was better and no blood.
I ran out of it last night and the vet was closed- I gave the puppy 1/2 cup of pedigee puppy again, and he got up 5 times during the night to go poo- all diarhea- and the last poo was blood and mucus.
I went and got more Hills I/D and he hasnt had diahrea yet today- but he hasnt pooed yet so I will check when he does.
Has anyone else had problems like this with a specific food, what did you do... what food do you use now?
I love my puppy - and this 60 bucks 2-3 times a week at the vet- and the food is 25$ a 10lb bag- is killing my wallet.
A low-cost alternative to the I/D for diarrhea:
Instant rice and boiled hamburger. Mix together slightly more rice than hamburger, and feed. Note that this is NOT a normal diet, only for days when the puppy is having terrible diarrhea.
You may want to consider getting him off the Pedigree altogether -- it isn't agreeing with him. There are higher-quality alternatives out there, which aren't as hard on the wallet. Research Canidae, or Innova. My dogs also did well on Nutro Natural Choice.
Whatever you decide, ease him from one food to the other -- cold turkey switching can be hard on their tummies. Go 1/2 and 1/2 for a few feedings, then 1/4 old + 3/4 new for a few, until you switch completely to the new.

Hypo-allergenic cat food questions?
What makes it hypo-allergenic?
A guy at a pet store said hypo allergenic is just filler and greens free. So no grain. Is that true?
The hypo allergenic food i am buying from the vet is killing my wallet. Anyone know alternatives in Canada for it?
I do not know what hypo-allergenic cat food is.The expense of cat food from your vet might go down if you get pet insurance. Pet speciality stores might have the pet food you need for less.
