I just saw a HUGE SPIDER HUGE.I Actually heard it land on my box.Brown Spider with some sort of pattern in blk?
The Body was easily 2 1/2 to 3 inches long and 1 1/2 across. 8 legs.. I didn't see any type of hair.. but it was HUGE Brown with 8 legs with lets it would measure bigger.. anyway.. what the heck is it.. I am sending my hubby to catch it,I searched all over the web.. the only one it looked like it could be was a wolf spider.. but the base was wider and not thik like a black widow..seemed to be flat.. Gross ewe an yuck.. I hope I can catch it alive to share. I have never in my life seen anything that big.. It was bigger than a taranchula or at least ones I have seen. ewwwww freaking out. anyway if you have any clue as to what it is I would truly appreciate your help.
most likely a huntsman spider.( Heteropoda venatoria)
in spite of their size, and ability to startle people,
these are harmless, and even reluctant to bite.
these are an excellent 'natural exterminator'
some people even keep these as pets.
they are just difficult to handle, because they can be rather quick.

my tank is 3ft long X 2.5ft tall X 1.5ft wide. I believe it is a 79gallon tank. I have a male green terror at 5-6 ihch and two firemouths at about 2.5 inch (sex?) They are all cool now. I will be getting a 5inch green texas. Do you tnink they will be cool? Plenty of hiding spots. I also have a standard 55g Tank (4ft) but it housed my Tanganyikans. (6 sm. blk calvus, 6 sm. synodontis eupruptus and 6 frontosas will move some of these last 2 out as they get bigger. and 2 brichardi that dont get along with each other.
A big green terror and a big texas in a 3 foot tank is risky. Sooner or later they will kill each other. I'd put my money on the terror.
