Most men have no fashion sense, so you are kind of out there in fantasy land to begin with.
Most men look good in black (believe it or not -- this advice has been around for literally hundreds of years). So it could be that he has got it right.
After that some girls do like the chubby guys (they call them "teddy bears").
My guess is that girls might not see him so much as weird but he is different enough to attract attention.
Then there is the "bad boy" aspect that some women like ... it is a rebellion thing.
