Wallet Magnifying Glasses

Why do some new store bought items have an obnoxious smell?

New tools used to have preservative oils to keep from rusting.
Then there were other items like plastic tv sets or other appliances.
Later, portable adding machines, magnifying glasses, and other small items.
Now, I find the odors in clothing!

Such as, in some rubber tennis shoes. hats, and would you believe,
I found this obnoxious smell in a pocket wallet I bought. I had to throw it
in the trash!!.

clothing, sheets in particular, have sizing in them.
you need to wash them before using them.

many, many years ago, i put some new sheets on my bed w/o washing them.
it was so bad that i got up in the middle of the night and changed them.
now i always wash any fabric i get before using it.

as for your wallet, maybe if you just left it out, maybe in the garage, the odor would dissipate.
however, you didn't say whether it was leather or plastic.

some things, you can leave out, maybe in the sun so they get hot, and that should help 'em lose the smells.
